Autumn in Italy is synonymous with the grape harvest. In countless vineyards across Italy, wine making is in high gear over the fall months. Soon after, new vintages will reach us and, if we are lucky, we will be able to savour great wines.

But what makes a great wine? For many, the answer is the tangibles: soil, sun, water, climate. For others, it’s the method of production. For me, it is all that and much more.

I have had the pleasure of meeting with and working with Michele di Ruscio of Terra Fageto winery in Pedaso, in the Marche Region of Italy. I learned from Michele that great wine happens when there is a commitment to quality winemaking; when the result of the grape harvest is not a product, but a philosophy of life and living that is evident in the care that is taken in every step from grape to glass.

The commitment to quality with Terra Fageto is not manufactured: it is genuine. It has been nurtured through generations and feels like it is part of the DNA of the family and its staff.

Great wine is about the story that brings it to life. Terra Fageto’s story is rooted in generations of tradition, love of the earth and reverence for its abundance. Taste the Terra Fageto story and you will see what I mean. Saluti!
