Sardegna is the second largest island in the Mediterranean Sea – the largest is Sicily. Sardegna, or Sardinia in English, is located approximately 200 km west of Rome. It is almost impossible to describe because it looks and feels so different from the rest of Italy’s more popular destinations. However, it is an island of tremendous geographical beauty, incredibly ancient history (ruins from 1900 BC!), stupendous beaches, and the most welcoming people.
MP TOURS’ first tour to Sardegna begins in 2024. Its appeal is multi-faceted. Sardegna is less-travelled than the mainland, with smaller towns, a slower pace, and breathtaking scenery, especially the drive along the western coast. Besides vistas, the food is exquisite and while seafood is abundant and tasty, there are dishes for every palate. If you love wine, you will love tasting the unique flavours of Cannonau, Vermentino, and Vernaccia. Of course pasta is a must-try, with regional specialties like maloreddus, culurgiones (think ravioli), and fregola. A little known fact is that Sardegna is home to one of 5 Blue Zone communities in the world. These are places where residents typically live to 100 and beyond.
